Selkirk College

Kootenay School of the Arts Nelson, BC

The main objective of the programs is to ready students for employment or self-employment by developing flexible and readily portable skills. The introductory programs are broad in scope and encourage students to strive for quality design, originality, and enhanced workmanship skills, to improve chances of success in the marketplace.
Individuals desiring to further advance their woodworking skills, and to explore an area of personal interest at greater depth, may choose to return for a second year of study. A large portion of the second year consists of independent study; therefore you should possess a high degree of self-motivation. Applicants for this specialty program must have passed the foundation year with a minimum of "B" standing in all courses.

The Furniture Studio, Sheridan Crafts and Design Program

1430 Trafalgar Road, Oakville, Ontario Canada L6H 2L1

The Furniture Studio at Sheridan is CanadaÕs most in-depth course of study for furniture design and fabrication. Over the course of our three year advanced diploma program we investigate the design and construction of furniture and related objects primarily made of wood, with the potential to involve other materials like cast and fabricated metals, plastics, glass, and stone as dictated by the interest of the student and the problem assigned. Our program attracts students with diverse backgrounds and objectives whom the faculty assists to achieve maximum personal and professional growth. Although technical and design experience is an asset, some students begin their studies without prior furniture making knowledge and develop abilities rapidly.
